Cat (Feline) Supplements
Cats suffer from many of the same chronic ailments as humans, especially those associated with age, obesity and allergies. While our feline friends have many differences in their biochemistry and physiology, many of the same nutraceutical supplements are effective for their medical problems as they are for humans.

NanoLife Nutra Feline Arthritis Supplement

Just as in older humans, most older cats tend to experience some level of arthritis. Your veterinarian will need to make a specific diagnosis, but if you notice that your cat isn’t as active as he/she once was, has a change in gait or a limp which appears to worsen with time, your cat may be experiencing the onset of osteoarthritis. Also many cats who were once adept climbers or liked to pounce on their toys (or the occasional bug) will slow down or cease these activities. Some cats will slow down or stop eating as arthritic pain worsens. Note that all of these symptoms will probably get worse very gradually so that you may not notice the onset of arthritis in your cat. Therefore it is important to discuss the possibility that your cat may be experiencing the symptoms of arthritis at each veterinary visit especially as your cat grows older.

It is important to start treatment of arthritis in your cat as early as possible because once the disease gets severe, the arthritis may need to be treated with steroids and NSAIDS just like in humans. Also as in humans these drugs can cause many digestive and other problems. Small animals such as cats seem to be even more sensitive to the deleterious side effects of these treatments that the animal will likely be receiving for the rest of his/her life. Therefore, effective nutritional supplements for the treatment of both the pain and progression of arthritis in dogs are highly preferable. Many experts recommend that all cats be given anti-arthritis nutritional supplements after they are a few years old, because the supplements have no side effects.

NanoLife Nutra has combined the most effective supplements into a single formulation which is a tasty gravy. The liposomes effectively mask the taste of the more bitter- or foul-tasting supplements such as glucosamine while maintaining a creamy, homogeneous texture that your cat will look forward to as a special treat. The soy phospholipid used to make the liposomes also is a healthy nutritional supplement that some humans take daily by itself.

Contents:

Glucosamine HCL Major component of joint cartilage and synovial fluid.
Chondroitin Sulfate & Hyalurionic Acid Both are large proteins whose major function is to attract and maintain water to the joints. Keeping the joint components hydrated is the key to maintaining the cushioning properties which prevent the ends of the bones from grating against each other during movement.
Perna canaliculus (Green-Lipped Mussel) Rich natural source of GAGs (glucosaminoglycans) which have significant anti-inflammatory properties.
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) Potent anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to slow the progression of arthritis in humans.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids Anti-inflammatory properties have been confirmed in numerous inflammatory conditions; one the most studied anti-inflammatory supplements with primarily positive results.
Vitamin C The first and most common supplement to show immune support and anti-inflammatory properties.
Vitamin E Many consider this the fat-soluble equivalent of Vitamin C; easily incorporated into the liposome structure.
Manganese Necessary co-factor in the production of joint cartilage as well as for superoxide dismustase (SOD) which is a necessary enzyme for controlling inflammation.

NanoLife Nutra Feline Weight Reduction/Diabetes Support Formulation

Obesity is one of the, if not the, major cause of diabetes in cats. Just as in humans, cats experience type II diabetes (also known in humans as adult onset diabetes) often due to obesity along with an increased risk of joint and cardiac problems. Note that this product can be used to assist your pet in losing weight and/or be used as a high protein/low carbohydrate/low fat supplement for diabetic cats. You should discuss how best to use this product for your diabetic cat with your veterinarian.

This support formula is a high protein supplement which can be added to reduced portions of your pet's usual food. This formulation contains no fat or carbohydrates; low fat/low carbohydrate diets have been shown to maintain normal insulin levels and sensitivity in cats. Essential phospholipids in the form of liposomes have been added both to mask the taste of taurine (see NanoLife Nutra Feline Taurine Supplement) as well as improve the texture and overall palatability of the product. The source of the phospholipid is soybean so that the liposomes also act as a source of essential fatty acids which have been shown to reduce the incidence of liver problems (hyperlipidosis) which can sometimes occur in cats that are losing weight. Phospholipids can also improve the skin and coat condition of your cat.

The gravy-like texture and overall palatability of the NanoLife Nutra Feline Weight Reduction/Diabetes Support Formula will make your cat think that he/she is receiving a special treat instead of being deprived!

Contents:

Whey Protein Highly digestible, complete protein for superior nutrition when reducing the amount of regular food eaten.
Casein Acid insoluble complete protein which will remain in the stomach longer thus making your cat feel full longer.
Brewer's Yeast Natural source of B-vitamins to give your cat more energy for the exercise that your veterinarian will recommend as part of the weight loss program.
Taurine An amino acid which is essential to your cat's diet (see NanoLife Nutra Feline Taurine Supplement).
Essential Phospholipid Soy phosphatidylcholine (major component of liposomes) provides essential fatty acids which can help protect the liver from hyperlipidosis during weight loss in cats.

NanoLife Nutra Feline Taurine Supplement

Taurine is an amino acid which is found not only in proteins like other amino acids, but also is very important in its free form in many tissue and cellular functions. Most animals including humans can synthesize taurine in their bodies if they don't get enough of this amino acid in their diet. This is not true for cats so it is very important that your cat receives extra taurine as a supplement.

Some of the conditions that result from low taurine levels in cats include
  • Impaired vision or blindness - retinal cells need taurine to function properly
  • Heart disease - cardiac muscle cells require taurine to maintain their function
  • Decreased reproduction - taurine is required by both the queen and kittens during pregnancy and lactation for optimal growth and development
  • Inadequate growth in kittens - kittens continue to require adequate levels of taurine in order to grow and develop into healthy adults
  • Other systems - taurine is required by the neurological, immune and digestive systems for proper functioning as well
Being an amino acid, taurine has a bitter taste which makes it difficult to give to your cat as a supplement. One advantage of liposome technology is the liposome's ability to mask the taste of compounds which have been encapsulated inside the liposome. The liposomes are composed of soy phospholipid which is a healthy nutritional supplement on its own. NanoLife Nutra Feline Taurine Supplement is a flavored liposome suspension which your cat will look forward to as a tasty treat either given alone or with food.

Contents:

Taurine An amino acid which cats cannot synthesize, thus it must be added to their diet.
Essential Phospholipid Soy phosphatidylcholine (major component of liposomes) which provides essential fatty acids important to many biological functions.

NanoLife Nutra Feline Skin Allergy Supplement

Cats experience a very common skin condition with the technical name feline military dermatitis more commonly known as "feline eczema", "scabby cat disease" or "blotch". These are general names for a condition that can be a result of many underlying conditions such as fungal, bacterial, yeast, mites or lice infections, food allergies or hormonal abnormalities. These conditions will usually need to be treated by medications prescribed by your veterinarian after determining the cause of your cat's skin problem. However, the condition is commonly caused by allergic responses to pollen or fleas, or nutritional disorders such as a lack of biotin or essential fatty acids. The condition can make both you and your cat miserable because of the animal's constant scratching and licking of affected areas. If your veterinarian does need to prescribe an antibiotic or other medication for your cat's skin condition, you may also want to ask about adding NanoLife Nutra Feline Skin Allergy Supplement to the treatment regimen because of its potent anti-inflammatory properties. Whatever the cause of your cat's itchy skin, anti-inflammatories will help your cat become more comfortable while the other treatments, if necessary, are working on the root cause of the disease if it is not allergy-based.

Our supplement contains both biotin and omega-3 fatty acids, a lack of which may be the source of your cat's skin condition. The liposome component of the supplement is composed of soy phospholipids that also are an important source of essential fatty acids. The mineral antioxidant, selenium, is also included because it has been shown to help in allergic skin conditions. Both vitamins C and E have been repeatedly shown to have significant anti-inflammatory properties. NanoLife Nutra Feline Skin Allergy Supplement's unique liposomal design can mask the "fishy" taste of the omega-3 fatty acids which are most commonly derived from oily fish as well as the bitter, metallic taste of selenium. All are included in a flavored gravy that your cat will enjoy almost as much as getting rid of his/her itchy skin!

Contents:

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Anti-inflammatory properties have been confirmed in numerous inflammatory conditions; one the most studied anti-inflammatory supplements with primarily positive results.
Vitamin C The first and most common supplement to show immune support and anti-inflammatory properties.
Vitamin E Many consider this the fat-soluble equivalent of Vitamin C; easily incorporated into the liposome structure.
Essential Phospholipid Along with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E, soy phospholipids provides essential fatty acids always recommended for skin problems.
Biotin Essential for healthy skin; promotes fatty acid biosynthesis.
Selenium An antioxidant which has been shown to promote skin health.

As always you should consult with your pet's veterinarian prior to adding any supplement to your pet's diet.
